I also can't find an attachment section in the portal or an attachment for the medical questionnaire. please help me find it also any advice on how to improve my running I've not been doing it recently as I've been too busy working and studying for the interview.

Hi MLL,

Well done on the interview. I am also awaiting my sift interview next month and busy recording my fitness and run times. In regards to the role you have applied for? Which is it? I don't have any experience in Mine/Medical as going Warfare myself but hope others on the forum can help, if Mine warfare is what you really want to go for then why not go for it? Don't be pushed by AFCO into the role they 'think' is best, often because they have their own targets to fill that role.

Medical questionnaire and the external medical takes place after Sift and your AFCO arranges this, best speak to them as they are best placed to answer., hopefully send the details to you.

In terms of fitness and medical standards, I've attached the pdf I received from my AFCO which hopefully is the same you have been provided with. All I can say about running is get out there as often as you can ideally everyday/second day so 3-4 times a week starting short distances at a comfortable pace and going further each time, I wouldn't worry about timing but obvs make sure you can run the target time for your age group prior to your actual test when you have it.

Cheers

okay thank you I applied for warfare but beforehand I was actually looking at going into communications because it is something I've always been interested in. the reason I applied for warfare in the first place was that I originally wanted to apply for mine clearance diver but all the positions were filled. thank you for the advice my parents and friends gave similar tips, I can't remember the app my interviewer suggested to me which is an issue I'm trying to sort.

thank you so much for your help!

There are no targets to fill. Don’t buy into that urban legend. They do actually want what’s best for the candidate, based on what information they are given.

I would suggest you have a think about what you actually want to do before going any further. The commitment you are undertaking could be potentially 4 years plus. If your heart isn’t in it, you won’t succeed.

There are numerous fitness tips around the bazaars on this website, use the search box. The RN does actually have some bumps online which is a plan - https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/careers/joining/get-fit-to-join/my-fitness-plan

Get started with that. For everything else, chat with your CA. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. It might even be time to start sorting out your own admin and making time for phys, alongside work and studying. Pretty much like the rest of your training will be like.

Yep, why would the RN invest time and money to persuade you to join a trade which you don’t enjoy, then you bin it after 5 minutes at sea?
Doesn’t make sense.

thank you guys for your advice, I think my heart is more in it with communications role as I find it more interesting and exciting so I think I will end up going for that role, either way, I think I would've ended up going for the role especially since warfare doesn't really interest me as much as communications do I like being where the people are which is why I was recommended the role. I will be starting a new routine for fitness which is better than before as I wasn't improving only losing weight which in my case isn't a very good thing.

My apologies I thought you had applied for another role and it was suggested to you by AFCO to go for Comms, best of luck with your application.
