Can somebody please tell me about this naval badge

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

It looks like a school blazer badge to me. The motto 'finis coronat opus' has naval usage but there is no naval theme to the badge such as anchors and crowns or a bit of water. That doesn't mean it isn't 'navy' but maybe you should look at his school first.

Your picture post doesn't work but the Twitter link does.
  2. Looks like a shuttle used in the textiles industry, particularly weaving, so perhaps pointing to the industrial type education.

What indicators other than the widely / internationally used Latin motto do you see in the Wiki article Slim? Excuse me if I am missing the obvious.
  4. Merely a starting point
However having looked at the Goldings site, this could be the answer
