BRNC June 2017

Don't worry too much about the clearance, mine didn't get approved until I'd already been at Dartmouth for a few weeks.

Enjoy the course, it's a little bit of bullshit but it can be good fun if you at least have a decent stab at everything. In fact I think you have to now because we were told the course from now in is pass or fail and a fail is a sacking. It's not hard though.

If anyone's interested I'll try writing up a post of what to expect

Hi yeah same love to hear what to expect and you were lucky they wouldn't let me have a start date til my clearance arrived.

Tried writing stuff up but there's so much to write that it wasn't making sense so ask away on what you want to know and I'll answer everything.

Ignore the joining booklet, it's about ten years out of date for the navy and makes zero sense for us.

I was wondering what happened after the passing out parade - is there time off before starting trade training?

Not really. You get the leave on the weekends so you don't build up much actual leave, I think it's about ten days. They'll pay your expenses to go home every weekend if you want but it's a bit of hassle and it kind of puts you on the outside of the group a little bit. Still, some people do it.

Do we need to write the intro essay? What's the best and worst part of the whole thing?

Thanks!

I didn't and about half the intake didn't either. I don't think anyone sent it in but a few brought it with them. We were never asked for it but can't promise you won't be but it's more of an RN thing.

Best: It's actually a lot of fun but only if you let it be. Theres also a feeling of accomplishment when you complete some of the more worthwhile tasks such as MARL.

Worst: There's a lot of bullshit. Marching, saluting, uniforms, college traditions etc. It all seems a bit pointless and to an extent it is for us but it's their college so it's their rules. I find the best way to handle that is to just do it, the more people pushed back against it the worse of a time they had.

Hi, they would like the essay I checked and also I asked about after the passing out parade etc.

It is likely we will have 2 maybe 3 weeks break after the 10 weeks militarisation training before we start the 6 weeks trade, after this we will be 3 months at sea to consolidate the training with a further month at HMS Raleigh after.

Are ballpoint pens acceptable for the essay or is it mandatory that fountain is used?
