BRNC - All you need to know. And more

Are you certain that the total time you would spend at BRNC is exactly 6 weeks? The website is currently saying: (etc)
My apologies: I wasn't very clear in my post. There are eighteen weeks of training - but only eight of these are spent at BRNC (the six I mentioned previously is a six-week block). As I understand it, it runs as follows:

- six weeks at BRNC
- week seven at HMS Excellent doing sea survival
- week eight back at BRNC but with the chaplains
- weeks nine-fourteen doing IST
- week fifteen at BRNC preparing for passing out
- weeks sixteen-eighteen at Beckett House doing the chaplains' transition course

How far have you progressed in the application process so far?
I've sent off my application, but waiting to hear from my ACLO (the person at the AFCO suggested he might want to wait until he can interview me in person).

Hi folks. I’m hoping to join the RN regulars as a chaplain next year when my current church posting ends. The weird training programme for us means that I spend six weeks at BRNC, before doing various other bits (sea survival assessment at Excellent, some time training under BRNC’s chaplaincy, IFT etc.

Can anyone tell me what those six weeks will involve? There was a week-by-week guide on here, but it’s from ‘07 and I’d be surprised if there hadn’t been at least some changes.

(Also any other tips gratefully received!)

Thank you!

I've given some thought to this and to how best to help you with your question, JRB.

I think that the ideal thing for you to do would be to speak to the RN Chaplaincy Team and to one person in particular.

There is, actually, a Naval Chaplaincy Service Recruiter who liaises with potential applicants for the role of Chaplain with the Royal Navy.

I gather that the current incumbent is the Reverend Martin Evans.

I would get in touch with the Naval Chaplaincy Service and ask how you might get in touch with Martin.

The contact details you need are:

Tel: 023 9262 5552

email: [email protected]

I would give the number a try this afternoon, as I think that it will be re-routed to one of the Chaplains, who should be able to help.

It may well be that you will be invited to visit the Chaplaincy Team at their base once travel gets back to normal, which would be an excellent opportunity for you.

Thanks for this, Soleil: as it happens I had an email from the recruiter a day or so ago with a bit of information, and I'm currently in the process of contacting him to see if he can fill me in some more.

Thanks!
