Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Out of curiosity when are Warfare Officers awarded their Bridgewatchkeeping Certificate is it at the end of Specialist Fleet Time or after Junior Warfare Officers Course. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

They take the BWC during Fleet Time, assuming they pass it, before completing Junior Warfare Officers Course.

Whoops! see below, Blood has got a better handle on it as I was going off the RN website which gives a "broad-brush" outline rather than breaking it down into modules. I stand corrected.

  5. Sorry that’s not correct. The BWC is separated into two parts the Nav Watchkeeping Certificate and the Bridge Warfare Qualification. IAW STCW, the Nav watch keeping certificate is awarded after successful completion of Fleet time and the nav Sea week. The nav sea week is the simulator exams and written exams that take place during the first week of Initial Warfare Officers Course (IWO). You then are qualified to stand on the bridge and hold a simple watch, but must be supervised for all tactical serials, The next part is the BWQ, the Bridge Warfare qualification, which is a board you sit during your first complement job. Upon successful completion of this board the two combined NWC and BWQ = your Bridge Watch keeping Certificate and you can keep watches on your own no matter whats happening.

  6. Thank you very much, have been trying to find this out for a while now. Regards
