Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Thinking... 1 Aircrewman Diver 2 Bombhead 3 Pinky 4 Tiffs.5 Mechs. must be loads more! in the GS and FAA as well??
  2. Artisans - Blacksmith, Sailmaker, etc.
  3. MEM(L) and MEM(M)
  4. OEM, CEM, REM although you could say these have "evolved" into other titles the same as OA's etc
  5. Patternmaker

I think that the ET stream is really the old Mech system. I think they made a mistake in getting rid of Artificers, and I say that as an ExMech
  6. OM (AW), OM (UW), OM (C), OM (EW), OM (MW), OM (WSM), OM (TSM), OM (AWW), OM (AWT), OM (W), OM (SR), OM (METOC), WEM (R), WEM (O)............shall I go on?
  7. No thank you as I ain't got the foggiest what your talking about.
They did not exist when I was in so ?????? I do remember OEM's though.
    And Seamen not seaman spec.
    TAS, RP, GUNNER???
Its been going down hill since they freed the slaves that rowed the fuckers. :D
  8. SA(V)
  9. Time to resurrect a dit.
    Abridged version.

My oppo stood behind me when I was in charge of the guard at Fraser Gun Range and wouldn't let the OOD in without his ID card as per written orders from Whale Island skipper.

Officer in desperation not wanting to drive back to the Island to fetch it:-

"Dam it Leading hand open the gates I'm SO(cash)."

    My oppo:-
"We don't give a fuck if you're Esso Blue, you ain't getting in without your ID"
    Me:- Oh fuck!!!!! 8O
  10. Boom Defence Technicians(???) Used to wear a shackle crossed with a marlin spike as their trade badge. Are they still on the go? 8)
  11. Wren Drivers and Telephonists
  12. Ahh now your talking.

One to get you an outside line and another to take you ashore.

  13. True dit, no shit??????

Not heard that one for years! Last time it was Victory main gate, or was it Neptune?
  14. Cook (O) = Officer's Cooks.

Shipwright Artificers. Before them the Chippies were Shipwrights, full stop.( I have a buddy who was one of the very last of that ilk.)
  15. "Ships Diver"
  16. Steve,

You will be reminding us next about that JR who, when asked to produce his ID at the Main Gate, showed them a crumpled packet of 20 ciggies.

In response to '" 8O WTF?" he told them he was "EM Bassy."......

Another Classic True Dit - He really was of that rate and surname.
  17. All proper Wrens...

QAs, WAs, Telephonist, Reprographics, shoreside RPs, Stenographers...
  18. At the risk of biting, that was an Adqual not a branch
  19. I joined as a JTO, then I became RO(T), then CY, all gone now.
