Personally I do not see a problem. It would save the boys having to use "**** socks".

Kinnell,
if you blokes don't mind sharing a boat with the females who will come down from the depths of darkest Swilly and Efford, good luck to you all - that's what you'll get !!

Yes, I can recall all these predicitons of doom and disaster very well, and I'm sure the Canucks and the Swedes went through he same anguish as the RAN did. If (when) women submariners become a reality in the RN the world will not end and you will get used to it and carry on, if not quite as before.

Pretty much what happened on Ships when the first batch of WRNS went to sea, I know cause I was there. Despite all the huffing and puffing of some of our Submariner friends when the powers that be decide to allow women to serve on boats it will happen, as always they will change the rules to suit the requirements of the service.

BoB i suposse thats what the RN will come to some day. What with the manning problems, but I am sorry as soon as the first BoB see the accom on these fine vessels they will be off like a shot. Us sun dodgers are fecking mad to ship out in these tin cans full of all sorts (you all know what i mean), and then dive to depth xxx. I have been doing this for some years now and even i think we are all barking. Bloody good fun though.

I can only agree with B K S, Jack 77, Maxi and Gypsy. As soon as the Admirals can find a window of opportunity then its B on B will happen. How they will cope with the privacy is another matter but some young ladies in the Colonies seem to cope but they are roughy toughy sheilas and lumberjacks.

Mind you Nutty I have always said if they really want equality then there is no need for privacy.

Wasnt there meant to have been a survey recently done of female sailors within the RN as to their likelihood of wanting to serve on submarines? If so, that would suggest that an immenent solution to the "medical problem/s" currently barring submarine service for females will miraculously be found.

They have been asking at Raleigh if any of the lasses would ever consider going below. Some of the money grabbing bitches said yes. Only for the cash.

This is something that's been bugging me for a while - I appreciate the medical reason for not having BoB, the risk to unborn spawn etc. So if they can just put a blanket ban on them, why can't they say 'Yes you can go, but before embarking you have to take a pregnancy test?'

I think its a load of bollocks. My mrs was a health physics monitor in Faslane. She left because she was pregnant. Baby boy born perfectly healthy and well.

12 hour shifts sat in the tunnel never harmed her.

I thought it was because of the pressure changes caused by the diving of the boat rather than the radiation from the reactor that was the problem with said unborn spawn. Hence wenches can't be divers either.

Perhaps pusser should specify only infertile women, male-to-female transsexuals, ladyboys and Royals need apply. ;)

Does not a woman free diver hold the depth record?

Tanya Streeter I believe held it once not sure if she still does. Her Cousin Dale is a Matelot and old ship mate of mine.

The U.S. navy have female divers and EOD specialists, both jobs as physically demanding as mine clearance diver. Tanya Streeter is AMAZING, Ive no idea how any human being of whichever gender can do that. I wonder what her VO2 max is? Proud 2 b, was this actually asked by the instructors in a serious manner?

Interesting- whilst on my last routine visit to the Submarine I asked a class of trainee submariners how many were influenced by the cash incentives. 10 out of the 12 present were in that particular class.

The official line trotted out is:

"The latent levels of Carbon Monoxide present in submerged submarines' atmosphere is believed to be sufficiently high to potentially damage an unborn foetus"

Whether that's correct or otherwise, it's the official reason given for not permitting females on UK boats.

Females cannot be Royal Maine Commandos as government policy prohibits females to be employed in close-quarters combat and females are not permitted to be Divers because of perceived pregnancy complications whilst working with mixed gasses and under pressure.

Again whether that's factually correct or otherwise, it's the official reason given for not permitting females to serve as Commandos or Divers.

How does this help if the pregnancy happens at sea?
