Just found a great site on tinternet:

https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/

It shows a map of the world whichyou can zoom in on.
On the map there are loads of ships or boats as we Wafus call them.

These are actual ship positions of real boats & ships, the positions are frequently updated.
Placing the curser over a target will bring stacks of info up.

have a good play chaps, better than boats in yer bathtub

Use the professional version in the NCI to id vessels passing PBL. Loads of info. All ships of a particular size have to carry the AIS system, other ships/yachts/motor boats!!! may carry AIS but not yet mandated. Kinda like a SSR for boats!

Also, if you 'tag' a ship or SAR helicopter too, (they carry a MMSI number), you can track them where-ever they go.

Note though. Not all pussers war canoes either select the system to be recognised or will all show the same ID.
