Just wandering what people's thoughts are, I am currently serving in RN and have a beard. I have my papers raised and awaiting an AIB date, would it be seen as negative for me to rock up at AIB with a beard. It is well maintained, trimmed and is part of me?!!
I'm wondering why you are wandering but, anyway, QRs RN don't stop you from having a full set. What you're up against, though (in my humble opinion), is bloody stupid modern attitudes to what's considered fashion and tiddly. Standby for that all time favourite, "it's not compatible with NBCD kit and makes you a danger to others". I would suggest that the AIB staff will be young enough to possibly hold it against you. It might be worth having a face scrape until you've completed that fun evolution.
When I rocked up to AIB in '68 with a moustache, not a word was said.
Leaving aside the fact that it's a f***ing silly question for someone that's going to the AIB - you're serving, it's iaw with regulations, of course you can have a beard - it will have no bearing on your success or otherwise. In fact of the three SUYs on my board I was the only one that passed and I was the only one with a beard.
There is a perceived connotation with facial hair and dominance. The C-level of my company looks like a facial hair olympics, with evil twins and minge ticklers all over the the place. They say its cos you tend to hire and listen to people who look like you.
But then there's this.
Hipster douchebag looks and porno taches invite questions and assumptions you dont want. Big sideys used to be a major bone of contention, could have earned you a trip to the barbers if the right Joss got out of bed the wrong side(y). Your call really.
