"A nuclear submarine had to be diverted to India after it was refused entry to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

It is understood Plymouth-based HMS Tireless sat in international waters for over a week while a replacement crew was waiting in the port.

Families of those on board who travelled to meet the crew had to return to the UK without seeing them."

  2. As is the UAE's right I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I also hear that family members who made the trip out to the UAE may be seeking compensation f.....g cheek, that's life in a blue suit.

  3. Would have thought that all necessary DipClear would have been obtained before the families were told to fly out to Dubai though - looks like there might have been a failing wrt to "attention to detail"

  4. That's ok, maybe now we will not be so keen to sell arms or other stuff, bugger them!

DIPCLEAR is often last minute so the families would be taking a chance, granted a long chance that the programme would not change. Maybe DIPCLEAR was granted then withdrawn. Maybe it isn't as being reported and a family member has gone whining to the press with half the story and half cocked.

  6. all families who travel to meet their other half on an OSP must be aware of the risks involved

surprised this has taken this long to make the news

  7. ...........This is very, very old news - shame about OPSEC because there is a somewhat ironic twist to it!

Perhaps it's only surfacing now as the compo hunters got fcuked off and think that a bit of publicity will lead to a payment.
In other submarine news, Admiral Rickover retires.

  9. Clearly someone thought nuclear submarine mistoke it for submarine armed with nuclear weapons.
