BBC: "HMS Liverpool Crew To Say Goodbye"

Pompey News 4 Nov 11 said:
A HUGE banner will welcome the heroes of HMS Liverpool home on Monday after seven months off the coast of conflict-torn Libya. Hampshire Flag Company, based in Waterlooville, made the sign for The News to mark the return of the Portsmouth-based warship – affectionately known as the Crazy Red Chicken which will pass the Round Tower in Old Portsmouth around 9.30am on Monday.

The destroyer was sent to support Nato operations off the Libyan coast in April and became the first Royal Navy warship to be fired on since the 1982 Falklands War. Forces loyal to Colonel Gaddafi shot rockets at the ship a total of 10 times during the operations.
It looks like a trip down to the Round Tower is in order on Monday. A fine ship, a fine ship's company and a fine swan song. Sorry to see the old girl go but she doesn't owe us anything after such a hard-working life spanning 30 years.

Have a good leave, everyone. After the past seven months, you certainly deserve it.

After paying several 'last visits' to her affiliated city, my guess is that they are now entitled to replace the freedom of the city march with the 'Hokey Cokey', in number one's.

Liverpool in Liverpool, one of the 'greats' alongside Glasgow in Glasgow and Newcastle in Newcastle.

Went there for a home port visit after a JMC. The post Remembrance Parade Rig run was one of biblical proportions.

The thought occurs that if they are going to make a film about the sinking of HMS Coventry, then she is the last short nosed 42 and would make a great prop!

When the Island Class OPV HMS Jersey was commissioned, the States of Jersey asked her CO what the ship would like as a commissioning present. He submitted a list of options including a windsurfer, canoe, bicycle, rowing machine, etc. The ship received the lot!

The next Island Class OPV on the stocks was HMS Lindisfarne. Sadly, no such luck. =(

Tell me about it! Their Jimmy took great delight in flaunting the loot in front of us with slightly less generous home islands... Guernsey you know who you are!!
