Top brass gives biking bandsmen key support

Today's Pompey News said:
BACKED by the First Sea Lord, 15 Portsmouth-based Royal Marines musicians will be taking on a marathon cycle ride from Monday. The team will ride from Kent to Cornwall in memory of Major John Kelly and Band Corporal Andy Thomson who died last year. Major Kelly died aged 46 from a rare neurological disease and B Cpl Thomson lost his fight against skin cancer aged 34. The five-day challenge – called Bandies On Bikes – will start on Monday, in Deal, Kent. It was the home town of Maj Kelly, and the ride will end in Torpoint, Cornwall, where B Cpl Thomson lived...

Cash raised will go towards three charities – the Deal Bandstand Memorial Trust, St Luke's Hospice in Plymouth and the Royal Marines Benevolent Fund... More information about the event is available at www.bandiesonbikes.co.uk, where donations can also be made.
The Bandies have certainly provided me with some marvellous entertainment in my time so I will be supporting this without hesitation.
