I served on many patrols up in the Cod War and we regularly fired across the bows of the two vessels that Iceland had up there, made them hove too and then boarded them that was from the late fifties well into the sixties, everybody was armed and carried a:
wait for it :- "Cutlass" which put the fear of *hit into them more than the Lanchester's we were carrying, or the officers sword or pistol.
Our ships used to ram them as well, we didn't pussy foot around with them like the boarding parties seem to do now, they seem to be curtailed as to what they can do now. They used to be told in no uncertain terms that if the didn't stop at the third shot, the forth would be through the "Bridge
