hi my son want to go in the navy he is 16 and a half but was diagnosed with asthma at the age of 9. Where he had blue inhaler then a couple of times the brown inhaler. But now he's 16 and hasn't been prescribed any medication for 6 years and he's been fine he's not visited the doctor about this promblem in over 6 years he was never admitted to hospital or went to A&E would he still be considered for the navy or not thankyou

Many can offer advice but I don't think any of us are qualified to give you a proper response. (Not one you want anyway).

Have a mooch using the site 'search' function. Asthma has been done to death frequently. Please be aware this is not an official Naval web site so please take any advice offered with a pinch of salt. You really need to talk to the nice people at your local recruiting office. AFCO.

Exactly what Waspie said but from my experience of applying and having asthma at a young age, it’s case by case but previous diagnosis of asthma is not a straight no.

They do a peak flow test on the medical, which will have to be over a certain amount (not sure how much, I got 600 and passed). They will look into his medical history and ask the GP to complete a questionnaire on the asthma.

Good luck with the call with the AFCO, mine has been really helpful with everything so far.

Back in the days of angry doc, it was 3 years clear of medication, as a minimum, then case by case. So go via your AFCO, he has a chance. Good luck.
