asthma for AET

Hi guys, im wanting to join the Royal navy as an accelerated apprentice in aircraft engineering. I have asthama and take the blue salbutamol inhaler before a game of rugby or a run, but i do have allergies to pollen. I've never had an asthma attack in my life and my asthma is well controlled. Would this bar me ?

There are no medical people on site to give advice but you have to be medication free for four years before you can join, so if you're using an inhaler I would guess the answer is yes, it will bar you.

Don't take the word of someone on the internet though, contact your local AFCO (and use the search function, top right of the screen, this subject has been done to the death hundreds of times).

I am curious as to how someone with no record of an asthma attack would be using a prescribed inhaler and how it was diagnosed? When was the last lung function / peak flow check?

So when I was born I was very wheezy and also at a very young age my peek flow reading was bad so the specialist diagnosed me with asthma and I've had it well controlled and then i havent had steroid pumps for about 6 years and always just had the blue inhaler

Steroid pumps may add a complication - that is new info.

My point is - if you are being prescribed pulmonary medication but there is no regular check on your lung function then is it really necessary? Note what Wrecker said though - you need to be treatment free for four years before you could be accepted in any case. If you are being prescribed the inhaler then you are still undergoing treatment. Unless you could somehow prove that the medication is not required, and has not for some time, it doesn't look promising.
