  1. Lord Laird, a former Ulster Unionist MP, now a crossbench peer in the Upper House, has been asking a series of questions about public sector pensions and their affordability. Yesterday he asked the following question:

Lord Laird: To ask Her Majesty's Government further to the Written Answer by Lord Patel of Bradford on 3 March (WA 141), whether they are considering introducing legislation to allow public service pensions to be reduced if there has been a decrease in prices.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for Work and Pensions (Lord McKenzie of Luton): How any adjustments to the level of public service pensions in relation to prices will be determined during 2009-10 will be considered in the light of developments over the year ahead, including the actual levels of prices.
