Are there any Cooks on board?

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hi, I am considering applying for Catering Assistant, was looking for an insight to the role if anyone out there could give me some details on what it is like working in a galley on board?

If you are considering joining the RFA ( you're in the RFA forum) they don't have catering assistants. The Chief Cook and one of the pursers do the catering as opposed to the cooking.

Fair enough about what they're called but, who does what stands.

  5. Thank you Jenny. I have just applied, now for the long wait! 26 weeks of training seems a tad excessive, must learn how not to poison shipmates!

You will be taught to a very high standard, despite what you'll hear on here.

  7. It is, after all, the hardest course in the RN . . . :yawnstretch:

Right, enough crayoning by me, apologies in advance.

Good luck in your chosen branch.

  8. If the RFA chefs are anything like the RN ones you might be taught to a very high standard. But you soon loose all of that teaching and become incapable of even cooking bacon.

  9. Not put off by hard work, I have a composed and methodical character. May well thrive under the pressure cooker environment :p pun intended.

  12. PMSL Ask all the naysayers how much they weighed when they joined up, then ask them how much they weigh now? You don,t see many Matelots with malnutrition.
