Applying for mine clearence diver

73 last time I legged it off- the lake was/ is 10 metres deep so in theory there is no limit to the dive times - there is a smaller 3 metre board used for the sea survival courses

Thankfully the days if bully instructors are long gone.

It wasn't bullying. Civvies refer to a 'gas bottle' or oxygen tank' and of course 'flippers'. It was to get us to call a spade a spade, plus of course to get a HUGE kitty going for the end of course run!

Definitely wasn't a 3 metre board I leapt from. There were three boards as I recall, bottom two were ok but the top board was roped off. I was doing my diving aptitude for aircrewman at the time. Luckily, the ruptured ear blood vessels let me off the rest of the test!!! I just tended ropes while the rest were sat on the bottom in the cold and dark!!!

Im one of those “failed” divers who us to kick about Collingrad in a tracksuit.

I’m a civvie now (due to rejoin in January) but have loads of friends either deployed or on Bomb teams. If you have any questions feel free to ask, but one thing I will say is that the wait to be a MCD is going to be a long one.

The branch has a long wait currently and Covid has just extended this indefinitely.

As long as the ever changing Covid-19 restrictions don't stop it, PEDA's are re-starting in November with the first intake hopefully being in January 21. The Loooonnnngggg wait should finally be over.

I've decided to go for air engineering. The wait for MCD is gonna be a long one and not being young myself I don't have the time to wait.

November isn't that far away. Whilst air engineer is a good trade. Don't cut your nose to spite your face. If MCD is what you 'really' want, the wait may be worth a few more months!!!!

I'm not gonna get in in November though. I've only just passed the psychometric test. There's a back log from this year applying for MCD so its going to be a couple of years wait. Air engineering was my second choice but after researching and speaking to career advisors I've changed this to my first choice.

AET is a good trade. Best of both worlds. Loads of shore time with a smattering of sea time to keep the general service on their toes!!!
