They don't seem to have an official time for over 40s on the PJFT interestingly.

I note, by the way, that for Chaplain candidates, BR3 says the following:

(d) PJFT. Where Candidates are aged 40 or over, they are to complete the Rockport Walk (RPW) at the AIB instead of a 2.4km PJFT run.

An update just in case anyone was wondering.

BP monitoring all done and signed off - finally officially medically fit!
Just got to get the PJFT sorted out now - slow but steady progress!

If your serving you have the option of the "Rockport Walk" if your over 40 (it's what I used to opt for!!), I don't know if that applies to PJFT though.

edited to add Sol beat me to it :)

Well, I'm all set to do the PJFT anyway and want to put all the running over the last 6 months to some use :) Might even be able to beat some of the younger candidates with a following wind!

Someone I spoke to who is still serving did tell me about the Rockport Walk - doesn't sound too challenging :)

^ Aye - B & B above a pub 'tis a fair stride away though - in Oban...

They didn't have a target time at the gym in the end so they just took the 35-39 age group time.
I managed 10:39 which I was pretty happy with anyway.
Looking to try and arrange my SIFT interview next. Navy News as bedtime reading for the next few weeks :)

Interview all done and dusted! Now what looks like it will be a long wait for an AIB date looking at previous threads on here.

My understanding is that medical officer intake at BRNC is only in Sept, so hoping to get in then assuming the AIB goes well.

Sort of looking forward to and apprehensive about the AIB at the same time. Not sure if my age will be a help or a hindrance tbh.

Wish ne luck!

Screw the nut and play the game. It's simply a means to an end for a PQO like you, but it means you'll have a common frame of reference when talking with your patients.

And don't forget to enjoy it.

Must admit I always found RN docs to be firt class.
Especially Doc Neary at Lossiemouth in 1985 when having just left the RN on pension found that the company I stared working for could not employ me as a field engineer because I had a Hernia. I was on terminal leave at the time. Quick phone call to Doc Neary and he had me in Hasler for the op in days.
Shame that the Military hospitals closed as ex service personnel were guaranteed treatment for life ;(

Before this post slim, I didn't know haslar had shut. I had to google it. Also, seen it was 11 years ago.
I had a basket weaving course there! And at Fort Blockhouse too! Oh joy.

I thought basket weaving courses were Netley :)
Together with the Long N course or, as one of my Chiefs explained when I queried a young sailor's curious manner, "He's all right, Sir - just day-running from Netley!"

Well done, KD - it looks like you'll have a brass hat in no time....

Netley shut down in 1978.

I was shown around Netley not long ago while doing some research.

I talked to the man taking me round about RN personnel going to Netley when we were on that side of the hospital. The main hospital was demolished some time ago, sadly, following a fire - the Chapel was preserved, however and is now an interesting Visitors' Centre.

I think that I told him that I recollected that D Block was where sailors were sent to at Netley. That part of the grounds still has some buildings intact and I'm pretty sure that what he said to me was that one of the buildings we were looking at at that moment was D Block itself. As it hadn't been damaged in the way that the main RV Hospital had, it was able to continue to be used in a mental health capacity; it was still very viable structurally when it stopped being needed and D Block is, as far as I could see, now one of the buildings which form the Southern Support and Training HQ for Hampshire Constabulary.

Nowadays, Hampshire Constabulary makes what used to be called D Block but is now Victoria House available as a wedding venue and it seems to be very popular.

I like the fact that this thread has transformed from a civvy doc, going matelot doc, into basket weaving locations.
Beautiful.

Well, normal civilian GP life has suddenly become very odd and quite hectic. At this rate I'll be joining the Navy for a nice rest :)

God knows what will happen about AIBs in the medium term. I suspect there's some difficult decisions to make about recruitment over the next 3 to 6 months.

Just stay safe. I think if you were in the RN you'd more than likely be doing exactly what your doing now.
