Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I believe the photo was taken around the time of my grandfather's evacuation from Greece to Crete; I'm just curious to know if anyone can put a name to her.

  2. HMS Ajax?----

  3. No not Ajax, she was a single stack Leander Class, looks like a Amphion Class light Cruiser, that went over to Royal Australian Navy,Amphion,Phaeton and Apollo.
Will keep trying to get a firm i.d.

  4. It looks like it could be H.M.A.S.Perth,former H.M.S.Amphion,but I will bow to greater knowledge.

Scroll down for the picture taken at Alexandria. It looks like grandfather was just along the quay, when their photo was taken.

  10. It could well be HMAS Sydney
  11. I can live with that, but when war broke out the Sydney was the only real cruiser in the RAN so how fast they aquired the others I know not.
