  1. Hi all,

Just after some advice/inside knowledge of the current situation regarding people wanting to rejoin. I've had a trawl through the search function, but wanted to see what the situation was regarding myself. I left in 2009. I completed phase 1 training but PVR'd after around the 10th week of trade training (due to family/personal reasons). I remember having decent appraisals in that time and being recommended for future service. I always had the intention to rejoin but never really found the right role.

After a few years of college and university I have successfully become an ODP. I am currently working amongst military personnel within my hospital, which has reinitiated my interest to join the service again. I've always thought that i'd have to do basic again, but after speaking to some of the military guys, they seem to think that this stage can be skipped. I've been in touch with the careers office and will be visiting it soon, but i would like some feedback off some people here aswell.

    Cheers guys.

Firstly, as an ODP, it's worth calling the specialist medical recruiters direct to enquire about vacancies in this specialisation (Med Tech): 02392 726096.

With regard undertaking phase one, it's the branch managers call but my advice is that as you never completed the Standard Initial Training Period (SITP) and have been outside six years, I'd be inclined to expect the worst but hope for the best. Gut feeling? Repeat Initial Naval Training to demonstrate commitment/motivation & physical fitness.

With regard an overseas applicant, who left untrained, it depends on the circumstances at the time (training & disciplinary records). The other thing to bear in mind is the eligibility rules with regard residency for Commonwealth applicants have significantly changed in recent years (if applicable).

In both cases "Family/Personal issues" as a reason for leaving covers a huge range of interpretation and possible outcomes as a result.
