I don't think any one will disagree with the book throwing ritual, but any penalties must be through the law courts not an internal administative measure. Your employer cannot take back money or pension rights that have been earned, only the courts can do that.

And his employer let him resign rather than throw the book at him first and the CPS chose the mildest charge to levy at him…

It's called 'looking out for each other'… bit like Judge Selwood 'resigning for ill health' when he got caught up downloading porn so he could keep his pension etc intact, then being given the mildest slap on the wrist in court.

The law should be changed so that if you swear an oath to uphold the law as a PC, judge or whatever, a criminal charge should equal automatic forfiture of pension.
