Having seen a brief mention of this incident in the book 'Four Five' by David Young, I wondered if anyone on the site had any further information.

Lt David Spurling lost his life in that ambush, and I believe my father was standing next to him when he was shot. It's too late to ask the old man now, but maybe someone knows what happened.

If the "Four Five" is 45 Commando RM, the Unit Historical Record covering July-December 1958 for "45 Commando: Cyprus Heliforce" is available for reading at the National Archive, Kew under reference ADM 202/515.

'Four Five' is about 45Cdo, thanks for pointing that out.

The reference for Kew is brilliant, I'll get down there and check through it.
