lets be honest, the RN is fooked.
What is being asked of those on board is incredible and can see fully why many leave.

yet, been to plenty of briefs and presentations where lots of chins are scratched, heads nod and lots of 'we know and things will change'

not seeing much of that at all

getting rid of these two ships is just the next step

No, LPD is the vessel purpose built for the role, however if we haven't got one we must make do with what we have at the moment, adapt and overcome......

The Chinook has a triple hook system, which provides stability to large external loads or the capacity for multiple external loads. Large external loads such as 155mm howitzers can be transported at speeds up to 260km/h using the triple hook load configuration. Multiple external loads can be delivered to two or three separate destinations in one sortie.

The cabin provides 42 cubic meters of cargo space and 21 square meters of cargo floor area and can accommodate two HMMWVs (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) or a HMMWV together with 105mm howitzer and gun crew. The main cabin can hold up to 33 fully-equipped troops. For medical evacuation, the cabin can accommodate 24 litters (stretchers).

Served with Surveyors on Herald (91-94) and the general message was that they were (at least) part-financed by outside agencies who needed sea-bottom survey data, so at least they bought something to the table. FAA is a good question - a Combined Air Command (crabs and wafus?) would be a possibility although who would they come under?

FAA and RAF non compatible so must remain separate, almost too many reasons to list and it's been covered on RR before, look up Crabs, Crabfat, Crab Duvets, Crab Air
Quite seriously I'd rather thank the RAF for their 100 years and then give them the good news, FAA & AAC will absorb their aircraft by expanding, Gavin Williamson can save a fortune by merging the RAF regt into the Army, or G4S :D who also specialise in standing around doing not a lot

LOL!!!! Good points, although I still can't see where FAA/AAC would sit in the whole sheebang - not our problem, though. Hold on, though - RAF centenary not due until April Fools Day next year - stand by for some absolutely stupid celebrations!! I have a few ex-crabbite friends here in Cyprus so it will be fun to see how they do it - trust me, I WILL report back!!! In fact, it might be fun to just remind them of the memorable date of their inception, just to see where they race off to arrange something and wind them up. Mmmmmm, job for tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe you've almost used up this year's RR allowance of exclamation marks there, old chap. ;)
Try to cut down until the next grat issue, otherwise the rest of us will left bereft of the ability to express shock and amazement. :p:D

B, sorry, old git habit since I found the twinterweb. But there will be plenty of them coming out tomorrow when I remind one of the RAF's finest (LOL!) of this, specially when I also present him with the final bill for the 11ft x 6ft shed I have just built for him while he has been away swanning in Dubai.........
