I'm not sure about that yet. And yeah I hope that I won't have to wait too long after basic training, seeing as though I'm waiting so long for basic training. I assume that they have taken it into account and are giving me a date that corresponds with aircrewman training. Not sure though so I'll wait and see. When you say survival training, do you mean it's part of basic training, aircrewman training or both. I know that a lot of aircrewmen do arctic survival training which I'm sure is cold no matter when you do it!
Survival training is part of aircrew training. I did two aircrewman courses. First one the Survival phase was at the beginning before Basic Flying Training. The second course the survival phase was at the end of Basic Flying Training. Can't speak about the format of the course these days. I'm well out of touch. It used to be theory followed by a period of time surviving in the wild with minimal provisions and possessions.
It's actually very good if you apply yourself. If you're lazy, you're doomed to a miserable time.
There a few ad hoc courses as well as the Basic and Advanced Flying phases. Aviation medicine, that will inform you how the medium you are flying in affects you. lack of O2, hypoxia and Coriolis, ears and how they affect the senses.
There may be first aid training, maybe photography, (I did advanced photography in my time). MAtbe even NGS or Naval Gunfire Support.
All this on top of learning to aviate and ASW or Cdo specialisation.
Good fun, you just take it in your stride!!!!
Oooops, edited bit. Forgot the fun part. Underwater Escape Trainer or Dunker. (YouTube will give you an intro into that bit of fun and frolics).
