AIB. All about Admiralty Interview Board - Officer Selection

Were you originally booked in for a normal AIB? When did you complete your SIFT? Thanks!
I hadn’t gotten as far as being booked in for an AIB, normal or otherwise; and I’ve not had a SIFT interview, either.

I’m having the same problem here. Trying to find the right balance between being keen and not too overbearing with emails regarding my AIB date.

If they are booking candidates invited to in person AIBs to virtual AIBs still I suppose being invited is going to be more of a wait, especially for an over subscribed branch like warfare and with limited spaces due to the cancelled May intake.
Also, are medical extensions done through Capita too? As I have had to resend my medical forms to my AFCO and not sure whether I’m going to have to do a triage etc again

So when one goes to an AIB, does that mean you are all applicants for the same branch? Are the boards competitive, as in only (say) three of you will get through, or is it the case that everyone who meets the mark gets through?

In a ‘normal’ AIB, as opposed to a virtual one, it’s entirely random what specialisation the candidates will be. And they’re not competing against each other; if none achieve the standard then none pass, if they all achieve the standard then they all pass. The selection boards then make their decisions from the pool of those that passed. Hence why a pass at AIB doesn’t guarantee a place at BRNC.

Some of the info from your AFCO was correct, but not all. The RN were the only service to continue recruiting over lockdown - the Army and RAF stopped completely on 23 Mar and have only just begun, albeit in reduced candidate throughout. With no May BRNC entry, we had significant candidates already passed AIB, but all those taking virtual and full AIBs all went into the same final selection board which sat last week for September BRNC intake.
What your AFCO/ACLO should have told you is that we are prioritising the top 10% candidates from Sift (Career Discussion 1 & 2) by their performance at interview and by their branch of preference. Some shortage categories such as Warfare Submariner will be taking priority for AIB over branches that are significantly over-subscribed such as Logistics.
We will be commencing AIBs again in autumn term for external candidates, so I would expect you to attend then if you meet the criteria I just described. Out of interest, which ACLO area did you go for your sift interview?

A timely reminder from BOOTWA - generic questions on these types of forums are fine, but if you attempt to gain an unfair advantage by sharing specifics, then this will be viewed in a very dim light. Remember, you are meant to be demonstrating the core values of a prospective Naval Officer, honesty and integrity are key in this.
There is little to be gained from knowing previous questions or presentation titles, questions are tailored to each interview and the candidate's Branch of Preference. Any pre-prepared answers are quite obvious to the Board and candidates quickly fall apart under further questioning - just be yourself, be honest, enthusiastic and remember you have all done well just to get to this stage, so don't blow it at the final hurdle. We tell all candidates to use the opportunity to 'sell themselves' - be honest, remember why you are here and you will do fine.
