The heart of the site is the forum area, including:
Of the 1000+ sailors deployed to Afghanistan each year, what specifically are they doing over there?
They're deployed in various roles. From Bomb Disposal, Medics, Drivers, Stores, Helicopter flying, Jet flying (plus their support crews) Policing, the list goes on
Depends on their trade. You got all sorts going out from Medics, Logistics, Weapon Engineers, Air Engineers, Marine Engineers.
Combat Clankies, read that one in Navy News
Would a HM have any involvement?
There's two teams of STC doing their specialist role as well.
With * of them in theatre, this leaves only about * in reserve for other duties, including *. Good luck to the lads; best of luck trying to get the * MkII to work this time!
Mod edit. Jonno, if you must insist on trolling around this site, at least have the courtesy to not give away operational secrets on open forum. Do it again and you will be banned
JJ you know the line, OPSEC and all that - sort it!
Lash him to the grating and Flog him round the Fleet, it's the only langauge these Pongoes understand I tells yer!
Accepted, and let's face it STC don't exactly need the publicity...
For a pongo that's not a punishment but a reward
Have we got another boyo joining the Navy in the hope of not going to Afghanistan? Personally, I'd welcome it. It's exciting, it's a new part of the world, it's risky, unconquered and scary. Naturally, I don't want to die, but as a potential member of the armed forces I should warn you that there is clear and present danger at all times.
I don't think the Queen will be going, no doubt that she would be willing, God Bless Her, but age is against her.
Haha, very good.
I'm not bothered if I go at all, I was just wondering that things they did over there. I kind of what to go.
Am I correct in assuming that this excludes officers?
Yes, they are. I know that, not long ago, the Chief Meteorologist at Kandahar Airfield was a RN Lt Cdr.
I gather that the meteorologists are especially useful to helicopter crews out there, as they can forecast dust and sandstorms, which affect flying.
Jonno, PM sent.
You fucking clown. And after what happened to B Squadron's JTAC yesterday as well. Dick.
Received. Can't apologise enough mucker.
It happens dude, don't worry.
Sorry, emotions are running high. After seeing Warthog de-badged and then kicked out the RN due to gash opsec I wouldn't want to see the same thing happen to you.
It's a lesson to us all I guess.
