AB1 to LH Promo Board

Anyone know anything about it? It's usually beginning of April that promo signal comes out....however it is now May and nothing.......

Then someone advises me that the Board is now meeting on 21st June!!!

Any truth here?

You should go and badger your DO as (S)he will have answer, if not they SHOULD have. I think you will find your source is correct, the Board sits in June so the signal will come out in July. The RNR have been brought into line with the RN (not before time) and all promotion boards are on exactly the same basis, indeed the Board is likely to include RN staff. Thus the timings the RNR may have been used to are changed. The whole promotion system has been tightened up and so is reliant on your RORRS report being in on time, signed by all parties and correctly written. At the end of the day it helps give credibility to the rate/rank given and thus better integration with full time colleagues.

My unit tightened up on the quality of RORRS about 2 years ago. It was increasingly apparent (across the whole RNR I think) that RORRS reports were not being treated seriously and in some cases were being missed for several reporting periods. In my unit, all us DOs were wheeled in and given a couple of session on doing "proper" RORRS write-ups that actually told the reader something about the person's perfomance rather than their appearance! The unit actively tracked RORRS reports and delinquent DOs were chased - the key being to ensure that no-one's promotion prospects would be blighted by the actions (or more correctly in-action) of their DO.

The usual lack of communication again :)

Our unit still had the mad rush of getting all RORRS in by the end of January.....so I do not think they know about the June board...

I think they do - get the RORRS drafted by DOs by end January, a number of "normalisation" meetings within the unit to ensure consistency and remove subjective DO input, followed by the WTRs collating all the reports for submission to CMR during March (ish) for the June board.

On a slightly related matter, with the impending loss of the WTRs, I wonder who within the RTC will pull together all the RORRS stuff?

IF THE RNR HAS COME INTO LINE WITH THE REST OF THE FLEET THEN THE PROMOTION BOARDS FOR AB-LH SIT IN JUNE. BUT IF YOU ARE IN ANY WARFARE OR ENGINEERING BRANCH (WAFU,S XMT) THE BOARD SITS 3 TIMES A YEAR STARTING IN MARCH.

Impending? Ours went weeks ago. So far as I can tell, it's down to the DOs...

It was impending when I was last at my unit - I've been out of the RTC loop since last July.

I think I'd rather go to the WTR (who left months ago) than my DO (who is still there) as at least the non-existant WTR is more capable of doing a report than my never-to-be-found DO

Icant...the non existent DO thing is a problem in many units, but many of them don't realise they can do some of the laborious work that makes for RORRS writing at home - and be paid! All DO's out there, check out BR60A and see whether your CO will endorse the DO work as appropriate home working for which can claim home working days!

Ratings often don't realise just how much time these things genuinely can take to do and always involves a lot of work at home. There is rarely any allowance of time in unit for this work especially with all the CLM nonsense that has crept in to take up precious specialist training and admin time as we have almost non existent support with no WTRs. There's another strand coming...!

rumor has it there's going to be a GSSR LH's list is out this week.

Don't hold your breath on pay if you are rated up. 15 months and counting. Our new JPA system has no way to move people up as they advance. My 12 year old could have written a better system. Just as well we got it cheap. lol :pukel: :toilet: :thumright:

Och its not the pay (thought it would help!!) :thumright:

It's the way it been (non) communicated. My unit doesnt seem to know anything, and from it being moved from March - to June - and now August - sucks. I mean, we are only lowly ABs, if this was an officers' Board, I bet there would be a riot by now.

True, all true.
Just a quick one on the money, if this was your real job, would you take JPA pish excuses or walk?
Most people i know are not in it solely for the money- but it helps to deter OH.
