A few questions. Ex army reg -thinking of joining RMR

that came across wrong i wasnt trying to imply he was a tosser of either of those reasons, as you said he just was

Dont worry bud. Its easy to mean one thing and write it down and yet it sounds only as the 'reader' intends it.

Non Verbal communication is something like 80% of all communication and that just cant happen over faceless electronic mail, so no offense taken :afro:

I personally wouldn't take pain killers and run m8. Pain is there for a reason, to warn of damage or to prevent further damage. Rest is the key here.

Of course it depends on the situation, if your on active service and there is no other way then fair enough. Not for a fun run though.

You risk far greater injury in the long term

CORRECT

I would take pain killers to keep mobile say few good walks but no running.

You could find yourself with long term life time damage.

Hence the reason I hung up the running shoes I was on a constant runners high **not thinking about the damage I was doing to my spine. Gliding down those lanes mile after mile like a bird in the sky was the only thing that mattered.

Sleeping on the living room floor with severe back pains then trying to get back to that fitness level again was so depressing but I knew if I kept this up I would end up crippled. I now get the high from long distance walking.

I much prefer walking briskly than running. Far less impact and similar fat burning qualities.

Thing that has always made me laugh with the forces is there mad on running. BFT in the army and im sure the marines have a similar test.

So, remind me, when at war do you actually run? Or even on exercise for that matter?
You don't, you tab (in my experience anyway).

This bugs the life out of me as I am great at tabbing but my running sucks big time yet I have to be a good runner to pass any forces selection :/

im the same with my running i can yomp all day but ask me to run for more than an hour and i struggle, and i have a 12 mile speend march to train for, the marines do have an annual BFT used to be done in boots and dennims, but apparenlty its done in trainers and shorts now???

and with RMR recruit training you end each exercise with a speed march, 4 miles to start with then 5 then 6 then 8 and a couple of 12 milers towards the end of the commando phase,

oh and ypu yomp at the start, makes sence really yomp in speed march out most times i wish it was the other way round...

we never did the race, most of the lads bottled it cause of various reasons, me and one of the the other lads who were still up for some training went for a run just so we actually did something and my back felt fine this morning with out the pain killers, i will probs be crippled in the morining,

I am 41the RMR did not have a problem with my age, the next guy to me was 46. I am an ex RM rank having left in 97. They want the goods, if you can cut it your ok.

Thats good to hear m8. Similar to what C/sgt told me over the phone IE age not mattering if you can cut the mustard.

Im getting my arse in shape and am going to apply in a years time. Need despritly to sort my running out. Am sorting it as we speak. Getting better bit by bit day by day. In a year or less Ill be where I want to be.

Ill continue to monitor this thread and update when I approach RMR tyne.

Sir Jimmy did it at 98, and the corps loves him to bits! My advice... become a legend then, as long as you're fit enough, the world will be your oyster
