Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. HMS NARWHAL, 1964 - getting some ice for the Gin & Tonics.

Excellent and nostalgic site. Just how small was the fwd. Mess on a Porpoise boat with the 18" deep beam cutting across the middle of the mess. Oh what luxury to get a "O" Boat.

It looks like the mess has been opened up into the open square O Boat style, what year was that photo. On the Narwell site you can see a bulkheads runs down the centre of the boat and to thr starborad is a passage with bunks in it, hence the table/sitting area of the mess was only about 65% of that in a O Boat style.

Great pic why is it DE Boys never change what ever year the pic was taken.

You would not have got any bunks in that Stb'd For'd passage in 1961. and that 4 man Daymens Mess would have been an envy on NARWHAL

Should this not be in the History forum? Or do we need a sub section on RR?
