A particularly good starting point is to give us a call for a "no-obligation" chat - 03456 07 55 55.

Good luck.

Got an extra 5 mins or so as the wife is still "getting ready" so I can give you a brief idea about the first stages and what to expect.
Basic training will be the same as it is for everyone else. If you think being a Wtr suits you best then you shouldn't have too much of a problem with the organisational side of things.

Phase 2 keeps you in sunny Torpoint for an additional 3 weeks of Functional Skills (Numeracy, Literacy and IT) then a week in Talybont for AT and leadership training followed by 10 weeks of Wtr training at the Defence Maritime Logistics School. This is a modular course on most of the core Wtr tasks (file management, Defence Writing, payroll, leave etc.) with weekly exams in theory and practical skills. Just focus on attention to detail and not remaking mistakes and it should be a breeze. The final assessment is a real working environment test (eg. a roleplay exercise giving you management of your workflow and personnel enquiries).

After leaving Raleigh you would head of to SMQ(S) or (N) at Drake or Faslane depending on which boats you were looking at joining. This is another 10 weeks or so with the possibility of a holdover period waiting for a course to start. On completion of this you will be drafted to your first submarine.

Once there, your initial time will be spent split between the ship's office and gaining your system knowledge and BSQ. After you gain your dolphins your working life will differ depending on whether you are at sea or alongside. At sea you will train towards becoming a planesman, manage office routines and deal with enquiries. Alongside you will probably find yourself busier dealing with leave/travel, reporting and more office routines.

It's a role that gives you a lot of exposure to everyone on board from new joiners up to the wardroom and CO. This gives you a good way to build relationships onboard but also an easy way to shoot yourself in the foot if you slip up. After that it's all down to you I guess.

I'm currently a WTR(SM) so if you have any specific questions I should be able to answer them. Probably incorrectly if it's anything like work.
so you are maintaining the standards of your branch?:D met a good writer once, only the once mind you.
