Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I noticed this on the RN/London Boat Show page:

“Celebrating 60 years of Royal Navy search and rescue.”

    771 Naval Air Squadron

771 Naval Air Squadron (NAS) provide search and rescue cover for the Western Approaches: that’s the Cornish peninsula, the Isles of Scilly, the English Channel and the Atlantic Ocean out to a distance of 200 nautical miles from Lands End. Operating from Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, they operate the venerable Sea King Mk 5 helicopter.

Ready to respond to an emergency within 15 minutes notice to fly by day, 45 minutes by night, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Those emergency calls can come from ships and boats in distress, such as during the famous Fastnet race of 1979, or from people in difficulty around the Cornish coast such as walkers, climbers, divers and surfers.

2013 marks the 60th anniversary of Royal Navy Search and Rescue. During the presentation the team will take a look back over the last 60 years with an opportunity to see some of the equipment used during the rescues. Aircrew will be on hand to answer any questions on just what it takes to be part of a Royal Navy Search and Rescue team.

  2. 771 also provide the aircraft and crews for the West Coast of Scotland based at HMS Gannet. (Or Highland Rescue as Channel 5 lets them be known!)

A big well done to all, past present and future crews who continue to risk there lives so others may live another day!

  6. Not bothering with the boat show!!!

Going to walk down to the old RN air station at Portland. Look over the fence at the Coast Guard helicopter. Bimble further along and watch the SunSeekers gin palaces being built.

    Cheaper at 100% the price!!!
  7. Sounds alright Waspie, and should you see some faded ghosts from the old Osprey, as they meander amongst the ancient place, just tip a wink and smile, I'm sure there would be a few who would answer you with a knowing wink and say cheers Mate.
