I wouldn't. But the way you (and others) went about demolishing his interest was breath-taking. No-one immediately answered that the RNR exists to provide niche capability to the RN as we man the equipment, not equip the man. And yes, it's a bit fucking odd that we rely on 17 P&M RLC(V) to do something that is intrinsically 'Maritime'.
And he asked some quite pertinent points about why does the TA's offer (cf The Proposition / The Offer of being in the TA) seems much more interesting, and instead gets a gobful of abuse. And actually, if we're running TV and radio adverts that say we want them to spend their spare time with us instead of watching TV or being on the internet (the irony!), then there needs to be something we offer in return - for some that might be civvy quals, for others that might a tour somewhere gucci (cf "Royal Naval Reservists Swap Day Job For Year In Fast Patrol Squadron In Gibraltar"). A service ethos is well and good, but it also needs to be matched by some common sense - treating RNR recruits like 16 year old Phase 1s might appeal to some, it certainly won't to the vast majority of those we need to attract.
The RNR is on the bones of it's arse, and threads like this will simply drive off those with a modicum of interest."I come in peace. I didn't bring artillery. But I'm pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you fuck with me, I'll kill you all" - Gen MATTIS USMC
20-02-12, 20:53 #32ATG a gobshite is a gobshite, even if they can string a sentence together. His 'questions' may be pertinent but they weren't raised in the spirit of meeting the manning challenges of FR2020.

Sorry ATG but his question was answered within 5 posts, I answered it twice (OK the first 'answer' actually involved a bit of leg work on his own part and may have been a bit cryptic)! - a bit like this ... http://www.navy-net.co.uk/newbies/64...ml#post1073249?
Or this thread maybe? Media Ops is recruiting!
It works all ways
Give a man a fish and he'll feed his family for a day,
teach a man to fish and he'll sit round on a boat all day drinking beer.
20-02-12, 21:27 #34So the OP was correct that he could get a more Nautical experience with 165 P&M Reg (v) than with the RNR?, I understand 17 has more than "a few mexi's" etc, however if the OP is correct then a few harsh comments instead of cuddly ones would seem the least of the RNR's recruiting problems.

Sorry ATG but I'm with the majority on here. The guy has been looking into joining the RNR for three years - is there really that much to look into?
I'm not sure how recruitment is progressing at your unit but it'd be fair to say that i'm struggling to cope with the influx. We're re-structuring our whole new-entry organisation to cope with the numbers in the system and I can honestly say i've never seen as many coming through the door. Many are being directed from the AFCO but there are also a lot coming from our very active recruitment strategy.
The RNR is not for everybody and that needs to be realised. Promsan answered his own question. The RNR doesn't provide what he is looking whereas the TA apparently do. Fair do's mate. off you pop to the TA.The Royal Navy Reserve - YESTERDAYS TECHNOLOGY - TODAY!
