Sir Donald Gosling appointed Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom
According to the London Gazette, Sir Donald Gosling has been appointed Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom. This is an honorific position subordinate to the Lord High Admiral, an office held by the Queen until last year when she transferred it to the Duke of Edinburgh on his 90th birthday as a token of her appreciation.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the first occasion a Reservist (and an Honorary one at that) has held this office. This reflects the huge support Sir Donald has given to the Royal Navy and naval charities throughout his life.
