    Re: Detention Quarters

I went down for an interview at Vospers (who are now in Pompey Dockyard), walked past Deeqs and felt a shiver run down my spine.

I came close to a visit when I was in the Mob, one train of thought is that if I had gone in, I would perhaps still be in the mob (especially after reading some of the positive posts).

What happens now then? Does everyone go to the Colchester? What about minor offenders?

If an offender is awarded detention he is conveyed to Colchester where he serves his time (less one third off with remission). Minor offences (e.g. lost ID card/minor absence, fail to attend at a place of duty, etc.) are punished administratively (extra work, additional musters, etc.) by the offenders' superior officer, depending on the circumstances, without the need to use the disciplinary avenue. Repeat offenders or more serious offences are investigated by the RN Police and are taken to Summary Trial by CO/XO/1L, who may award summary punishment on board. However, with effect from 4 Jun 07, everyone at Summary Trial is offered the opportunity for trial by Courts-Martial, regardless of the nature of the offence. Too soon to tell how many Accused persons have exercised this option...

Thanks for the response. I was trooped a number of times ans was always offered the option of Courts Martial, but after a warning look from the RPO (GOd bless his cotton socks) I never dared accept it.

I knew a cookie boy on Swiftsure who got second class for conduct.......he said it was the worst punishment he'd ever done. Because of his attitude he was stood over several times.
In the end he realized that he wasn't going to win and the quickest way to get through it was to knuckle down and 'DO AS YOU'RE FCUCKIN' TOLD'. (play ball).
The submarine is at sixty feet....'report the state of the conning tower upper lid'.........'IT'S STILL THERE'....heard many moons ago in the control room on Swiftsure at diving stations

Regulators didn't work at RNDQs, but were involved in conveying offenders there. However some SD(X)(Reg) officers have a Training Officer posting at MCTC Colchester, but not in a Regulating capacity.

    Re: Detention Quarters

As tufty mentioned in his original post, RNDQs is now the RM School of Music; the big gates are gone, but the glass is still on top of the walls and the cell block is still there. The trainees use the cells as individual practice rooms, and they keep the block in it's original condition (suicide nets and all).

If anyone happens to be in the dockyard and wants to have a look round for old time's sake, the staff seem OK about showing people round.
