    Communications technician - after Raleigh

Can anybody give me some info about comms tech training after 10 weeks basic training at Raleigh. I understand from the RN website that you do a couple of years training at Chicksands.

Can anyone elaborate on that? (if you are allowed to)

Has anybody else recently joined or applied to be a comms technician? How long are you expecting to wait to join? I was told October 2013 a few months back

    Thanks in advance

    Interview next week!

Hi, I have applied for this role and passed the selection process. I was told 36 months from March 2012. Did your AFCO give you the October 2013 date?

Chaz, query from me mucker, if you don't mind...

What "in service" qualifications are available for Comms Tech nowadays?

N-S - our 3 CTs had different skills. The Linguist side obviously gives you a language (or two) to take away, the geeky shit offers some fairly specialised skills which will see you set up for life (in the same area obviously).

NS - to be honest I'm not entirely, am well out the loop over here (back in 3 weeks!), as far as I know (and a I may be wrong) there are qualifications of some sort available for those that go down the language route. I also think there's a City & Guilds available for all CT's up for grabs too, not sure of details though. I did my CT analyst training 93-96 and got points towards a degree, I don't think that exists nowadays as I did a civvy course, it's now all done at Chicksands. There are certain jobs that personnel get MS (& similar) qualifications coming out there ears too! More than happy to be corrected on any of the above, it's been a while since I did any training courses!

I began my application in June and he said October 2013. At the minute I think they might take on 1 class a year.

Cheers chaps. Realise things change & public domain stuff. Just to clarify, regardless of sub-spec, RN Comms Techs, after initial training, don't undertake hands-on software or hardware computer engineering do they - that's still a WE thingy?
