I've never been 100% sure about the programme either. I'm told you HAVE to take the "completed" form to Raleigh, but I've also heard of people doing their own programmes and being told to fill out the back page.

I think (correct me Ninja) you just need to fill out the back page (best run time, best swim distance and max press/situps) so the instructors know to what sort of standard you're coming in as.

What do you put in the boxes each day? Some of them are obvious, but what about "Carry out a long slow run for 50 minutes [______]", just a tick a guess?

Ideally you should initial & date each element in the 8 weeks leading up to joining Raleigh. Putting your "best times" the week before you go.

If you complete the 8 week training programme, which has been carefully worked out, then you will arrive with an adequate level of fitness to undertake phase one training.

One of the primary reasons for discharging people is poor fitness - there's a moral in there somewhere.

Another reason for discharge is what we call poor personal administration skills- amongst that is being able to wash & iron your uniform to an acceptable standard. Three kitmuster fails & you're out.

Again the moral is, if my memory serves correctly: If you do not prepare, be prepared to fail, did, dib, dob, or something like that.

Or failing to prepare is preparing to fail!

Train hard, fight easy - as my french teacher liked to say during revision.

What happens to those discharged due to poor fitness? Are they barred from reapplying?

An excellent quote from your French teacher. Wonder if irony was involved?

Generally if someone fails to pass 3 Pre-Joining Fitness Tests before joining they are rejected & may only re-apply when they fund their own test together with evidence that can reach the minimum required fitness standard.

If people are Discharged Unsuitable During Training due to being unfit then there is usually a caveat attached before they are allowed to re-apply, usually a year or two, during which they need to provide proof that they are meet all criteria stated in the caveat.

Fook me - makes me wonder how some of our little cherubs made it to their first ship!
Some people are only alive because it's illegal to kill them...

Jesus, a whole year or two not being able to join because of a lack of fitness. Don't imagine it'll be a problem for me. I'm on top of my fitness and getting better everyday, but just to clarify, the 3 chances rule applies for fitness tests at Raleigh as well doesn't it?

You would have thought the AFCO banging on about it every time you see them would get into peoples heads, wouldn't you?

When is the threshold for passing the RNFT? Week 4 isn't it?

I would advise concentrating on learning how to wash & iron you clothes rather than worrying about the technicalities on how you can lose your job.

Suffice to say about once a week or so, one of my colleagues cheerfully greets a young chap who joined the Navy for a short period and who now works in a local petrol station. Funnily enough, he thought it rather amusing when advised to get fit & learn how to iron his clothes.
    BSBRN82 and Astandane like this.
