    Re: RNXS

I believe that I was the only serving rating involved with the Royal Naval Minewatching Service, the forerunner of the RNXS, as a very young Scribe in 1952 at MHQ Pitreavie working for the Command Minewatching Service Officer (an RNR Lieut Cdr).

I was a member of the Hull Unit for 15 years as chief engineer, sailed with the lads from Grimsby, Thorne and Hartlepool all good guys except for an arse licker called Cavell, still there's always one exception to the rule! Had some great times and miss those days.

    Hello all,
it is great tro see that the R.N.X.S. is remembered with affection. As an ex R.N. 'Steamie' I was not sure as to what I'd let myself in for by joing the R.N.X.S. and was quite apprehensive; but I need not have been. My experience was of being with a great mix of people for whom enthusiasm was paramount, what they did not know about Naval matters was irrelevant; their dedication and committement to every task was quite fantastic and I look back with pride on having been priviledged to serve alongside and make friends with so many fine 'professionals'.
My unit was Chatham and we worked very closely with the 'Southend Mob' and although the names (except one) are gone, I remember them with great affection; Kerry Couch, Lynne, Brian, Jim Ferguson (sadly gone) Brian Willing, Keith, all great people.
To them all, if they remember me "All the very best and thanks for the great times we had together, God Bless you all'
    'George'
If anyone wants to get in touch I'd appreciate that.

Would you like to ellaborate on Cavell to me???? I served from 72 - 88 at Chatham

I Know an RNXS Charge engineer by the name of Bob Cavill, a Farmer from North Anston near Sheffield. Bob and I came up through the 'Old School' at Chatham, when we had engineering week-ends with Bertie Main-Price, Eric Parham, Ted Dowling etc. Bob is a very good friend of mine and I would be most interested to find out if the person you refer to is one and the same and if he is, the reason for your comment's.

I tried joining the R.N. when I was just out of school and was stopped at the last post by being colour blind, but a few years later I was a member of the Inverness branch for sadly only about 18 months, but enjoyed every moment I was there. Was in the engineering dept and got the chance to spend a whole week on board the Loyal Proctor travelling from Inverness through the Caley canal and then upto Poolewe going round Ardnamurchan point after a gale made for some interesting seas and some VERY sick seamen lol. Really glad to see other people have shown their support for what was an excellent group.

    Hello
My Dad was in the RNXS from the 1960's up till it was disbanded. He was in Greenock, Glasgow, Claverhouse. When I saw the Loyal Proctor mentioned it reminded me that I had been on this ship as a child. Does anyone remember Edward Collier (my father who sadly died suddenly in 2002)?

    Hello Folks

I was a member of the Gloucester branch of the RNXS from 1979 to disbanded and now the MVS.

I enjoyed every minute in the rnxs learnt every thing i wanted to know and more.

I was deeply upset when it was disbanded, but at least we can carry on with the MVS for which i was in the Severn Unit.

I had many occasions to deal with RNXS at Chatham before I left in '79 - I was in Supply Dept, and helped out at times. Sadly I cannot recall any names (getting a bit long in the tooth now ), but I met some good lads and lasses there.
