You will have the opportunity to express a preference, although drafty will send you where he needs you most. Generally it's in his interest to match your preference because you are more likely to settle in your preferred area and be a happy bunny. The bad news is Harriers are only going to be in service for about another 8 years, good news is you will get to transfer those fixed wing skills to Joint Strike Fighter/ Joint Combat Aircraft whatever they are calling it this week.

Im joining as ATC officer, at first this would have been my last choice after i passed my AIB, however with a low pilot score i looked into the job in more depth.

After taking up and starting my PPL (private pilots license)

I met a lot of ATC working at different airports mainly Prestwick and Carlilse. THey all seem happy with there jobs and have stability. So you dont have to be a pilot to have a good job in the FAA.

Well around late May (when i registered here) time is when i think i kicked the process going for me and I'm heading there the 28th Oct, Then i believe the waiting time was around 4-6 month's for a more accurate of the current one ring the AFCO or I'm sure Ninja_Stoker will be able to help.
Does anyone know whether this is still the waiting time for AET?
And why is there such a long waiting time, i thought the navy were crying out for AET's?

4-6 months isnt long at all in the grand scheme of things :P I would wait for NS or Mario to give you a definitive answer, but since I took my RT its taken 3 months and I begin basic on Nov 30th. I seem to remember either NS or Mario saying wait time has now increased, but may just have been drunk

    Hi,

We are being told that the waiting time for AET is currently about 3 months from the date you sit the RT. There are currently space's on the entries in Jan 09.

    Hope this helps

In futures years to come. You will all be SO glad you joined the FAA and as an AET.
I taught at the AES school and have watched the recruits over the years.
Also seeing the standard of GS ratings. Boy are they jealous

Re: AET & ACH Basic info for new joiners

Alright, i was on the same boat mate, had to wait a month for the athsma thing then i passed my pjft last wednesday so i'm just waiting on my joining date (anybody know how long i have to wait to get the letter?) I'm going in as an AET as well, so to my understanding, i can choose to work on the harriers? Cause i've always been fascinated by them . Also, are AET's responsible for marshalling aircraft?

One more thing, not to sure how i'll deal with not seeing my mates an that for so long so when training at HMS sultan, do u get the weekends off?
