You don't need proof, you need to accept he is not the father you want him to be. He will not change, you can only change how much you let him affect you and your family.
For your peace of mind why not just let him be?

I'm sorry that you feel that way.

To be honest, the truth is something which is not going to be available to you at the moment, no matter where you look. The only way of confirming whether any of these details are true would be to see your Father's Service Record. If he wished to, he could apply for that in his own right now; the forms are easily available. There will be a point at which you can apply for his Service Record yourself, but only after he has passed away (or before then, if he gives his written consent or if a Court Order allows access).

The only thing which I could put to you at the moment is that you suggest that he register with a website like Forces Reunited. On there, he would be able to add himself to the units with which he served and then you would at least know the name of his ship. If he did serve with the Special Forces, however, you are unlikely to see that mentioned anywhere.

I would try to console yourself with the thought that, one day, you will be able to see his Service Record. In the meantime, I would honestly suggest that you don't dwell on this so much; it may actually be a mercy, you know, that the details won't become clear until later. If you were able to obtain "proof" now and were to confront him and his wife, it might cause terrible friction within your family and I think that that friction would leave you much more distressed than you clearly are now and that would be very sad.

It's very good to read that you have been happily married for 34 years; how many of us can say that nowadays? It may be that the soothing balm you need is to found there, you know and not in pursuing a quest for information which can't be obtained.

Actually, I think it was. While Rum Ration is the "unofficial site of the Royal Navy" the majority of members here have a vast amount of professional knowlege and experience about a host of matters - naval or otherwise. While you want specific details of your Father's service career there are some here who have the means and opportunity to provide that information but, with the limited information you have provided, that might be difficult to do at this time.

Given the nature of this site, there will always be people who will use humour to diffuse or mitigate a situation (myself included). I know they might come across as "idiots, making fun and being rude" but this is often how service personnel are - you will become used to this if you decide to hang around the site for longer. Your determination will pay dividends as people come to accept you as a member here and, given your original objective, one or two who can provide the specific data you have requested will become ce forward to assist you in du course. As you can imagine, not everybody here uses the site on a daily basis for a variety of reasons so be patient and wait to see what happens in the next few days.

    Good luck!

if he re enlisted in 62/64 his new official number would have been O6 to O7 ish ,he would be to old to rejoin at ST Vincent or Ganges, so surely he would have had to go to HMS Raleigh ???? ISC pm Slim he joined at that time!!!! At HMS Raleigh.

Ah SAS, you should try here ARRSE - The Army Rumour Service (ARRSE) . Good luck.
