The KLF did it better, in 1994, when they burned £1M on the Isle of Jura as part of an ongoing protest against the pretentious Turner Prize Award to Rachel Whiteread, for Best Contemporary Artist. Plenty of video footage on Youtube. (Although I much preferred their anarchic final performance with Extreme Noise Terror at the 1992 Brit Awards, when they "machine-gunned" the front rows of the audience. The boycotted the award winners' after-show party by dumping a dead sheep on the steps of the venue, with a "The KLF have now left the building" note attached to the carcass.) The extreme does tend to make an impression...
