    Back to 1966

Fancy a trip back to 1966?

BBC iPlayer - Sounds of the 20th Century: 1966

Little bit of Alf Garnett and others, bits of news and some cracking music

No mention of janner making Mrs janner the happiest woman in the world though.

Thanks for invoking the memories Janner,

Ah 1966! - I was at Brands Hatch when Jack Brabham won the British GP in his Championship year.

My last year as a carefree singleton; picked up my first badge (@ 4d. per day IIRC?) and my second hook

(Downside was that later I wrote off my one and only sports car, too ... )

I remember watching the World Cup final on a small B&W Telly. It was my last year in primary school and we all had World Cup Willy (the mascot) badges.

It was formidable. It was also the days of Empire and gin. I weep to see what state we are in today.

Excellent, if you watch Pathe news clips from the day the Empire was all powerful, we even won wars outright.

She has just passed a very similar comment!

There's a brief piece in the commentary about Braham's win

Want a job as a GPO Telephonist? £848 per year salary.... For a lot of us in those days the £1000 a year man was well off.

Ah, I wasn't even a twinkle in the milkman's (or was it postman's?! Never can remember...) eye.

Wish I had been around in the 60s. Looked like a fantastic time to be young!
