A 'refreshing change' is not a good criterion on which to appoint anyone, let alone the 2 i/c of a service.

I'm not set against a Royal Marines General Officer becoming CinC Fleet or even 1SL but I've yet to think it through. (Like I have a say in the matter). Not sure a Booty general would make a good 2i/c of Crab Air finknottle.

Let's go for the big one, Chief of the Defence Staff.

I'd put it differently, if an RM officer was the right man, then he ought to get the job, certainly if it is about organising the Forces more 'jointly'. None of these top jobs should be a matter of Buggins' turn, let alone being socially 'in' with the Sec Def or whoever (like as it seemed to me Soames' promotion of Guthrie).

This bloke may OK but I would like the politicos to see through the Crabs' spin. Logically the entoire F35 fleet should be under the FAA aegis even if some of the pilots are Crabs, and the RN should have the budget for LRMP.
Edmund Burke: 'Wars may be deferred .. but they cannot be wholly avoided .. to purchase present quiet, at the price of future security, is .. a cowardice of the most base and degrading nature."

Nelson: "You should hate a Frenchman as you do the devil".

I see that Sir Stuart has just been appointed Vice Chief of the Defence Staff.
