Lying may be part of your makeup but it's not in mine.
It was a very unusual sight on the mountain in the Lakes,it may be normal for you where you live but it was unusual to me,and others in the local.
The guy who wouldn't even carry a crying kid over rocky tracks whilst urging them on faster was,in my opinion, disgraceful but as I said it's not my concern, had he been an Eskimo or any other[including British] I would have said the same.
I posted it for an answer to an unusual sight not to be questioned if I'm telling the truth but from your previous posts I can see it's part of your personality.
You must be a laugh a minute! in your local, prop up the bar alone do you?I would bet on it!
Don't know what you were in the Mob but from your posts I can pretty well guess.

Really though, most jews are somewhat embarrassed by the hassidic communities. Their culture really doesn't fit in with British life, they refuse to integrate and are often downright rude to people who enter "their" areas. It's not representative of the religion to say the least.
I disagree, I live right next to one of "their" areas and they're great neighbours. I'd rather have them than the wonderful working class salt if the earth British thieving pissed up turds on the other side.

Alright, Princess - dry yer eyes! Just wanted to know the relevance of their religion. Seems to be a common reason for casting aspersions about people these days (especially here in RR). YOU mentioned the fact they were Jewish; YOU could've simply said "I saw this bloke the other day..." But you didn't. YOU drew attention to their appearance and their subsequent behaviour, making the assumption that this was influenced by their faith, as though it was something to make fun of. Once I highlighted that you became very defensive and began turned your attention to me. Why? Have I hit a nerve? Can you only answer a question by being abusive? Is MY occupation a subject that is relevant here? Dig out fella. But I called your bluff and you didn't like it. Deal with it.

Sorry SPB but on this occasion I think you probably did overstep the mark - I remember thinking when you questioned whether Seafarers story was true or not that I would definitely have flashed up if it had been me so I am not surprised that he did.

The Orthodox Jewish clothing (or similar) reference was clearly (IMO) context setting and I can't say that I saw anything sinister or inappropriate in it - though I know where you are coming from with regard to some other (rather inappropriate) posts that have slid through these pages in the past.
... of course I could be wrong; I was once ... when I said I could be wrong!

Broadside: I know exactly what SF1939 meant but I just wanted him to explain and clarify it himself, rather than having a hissy fit and making it personal (not that I cannot handle that!)

Kinell, I didn't realise the psychic thought police were active here and I didn't realise curiosity was a crime, either. I think there may be a fellow Jew, an oversensitive one, here, or perhaps a guilt ridden, overcompensating racist.
If you are the former, שָׁלוֹם but if you are the latter, fuck off.

I used to notice this mode of dress in American airports and wondered why a Victorian frock coat had become rig of the day for them. For a religion that has been going form thousands of years it seemed rather an afterthought, but each to his own. Jews of my personal acquaintance (which they wouldn't be if I didn't like them as individuals*) don't go in for it so it must be something special.

*One of whom told me that their congregation in Portsmouth was the oldest in the country, and was originally based on tailoring, but that side of things has virtually vanished from Portsmouth now.

Supposedly their funky garms are a modern interpretation of how Polish nobility used to dress, why they decided to copy this, I have no idea.

I live near Golders Green and I can highly recommend some of the Jewish scran, salt beef is epic and properly sliced kosher smoked salmon is better than anything you can get in normal supermarkets.

    OK.

After speaking to my Jewish friend, (who used to work in a synagogue BTW), she isn't aware of any particular festivals at present and it could be as simple as a group from their community deciding to go on a trip, thinking nothing about taking a buggy up a mountain.

Unusual though it may be, dress-wise or behaviour, that's about it.

Jewish people naturally are just as likely to enjoy and just as entitled to a communal day out as anyone else. Perhaps they chose a rural, isolated setting to a) Educate their kids to enjoy exercise and the landscape b) Stay away from hoards of chav nutters who may abuse them.

My mate did say that their reticence to talk may have been linked to talking to the opposite sex, but usually she is fine talking to orthodox women (not being orthodox herself). If in doubt, ask your local rabbi !

On another note, unless we're dealing with resident fantasists like Chico, can we keep accusations of lying out of it ? We have a sense of each other on here, Seafarer is a valued old hand on RR.Words can hurt and accusations of lying are nothing but personal so let's play nicely. Besides. Who would lie about something that unusual ?

Ok next question, why do some of them at the wailing wall have black cubes attached to there foreheads? Is it some sort of laser beam?

Also what do Jews have for breakfast?

    Yom kippers and gefilter coffee.

Dont worry, cabs already booked and I didn't bring a coat.
