Wasn't Reg once a Chief GI?

I'm pretty certain he was on Cumberland at the same time as me round about '95/'96, and also at Cambridge about 10 years ago. IIRC he'd been in the mob forever, back then.

That is him Jimmy and he was once a CPO GI aboard the Ambuscade in 1979. He is a great character and has some fantastic dits and I used to love going out on a searide with him.

I seem to remember him saying, when we were at Cambridge, that he had served for 30+ years then, which if he was a Chief on Ambuscade in '79 would make that about right.

Thinking back to when I was on the Mighty Sausage, we were in Boston during Purple Star and prepping for Fleet Week in New York. Reg was taking us for musket drill on the jetty, watched by a herd of Spams, so for their benefit he loudly announced to us to make more noise during drill as Americans were simple people easily impressed by loud noise.

I think Major got rid of the Barracks Endurance Medal, as it was precisely as Jack described it, bloody worthless along with the rest of these anachronistic gongs. Of course I exclude medals awarded to our front line troops from the above comments.

What gong's that then? Has somebody not told me something? Did I lose the letter from the Palace?
