RN to the rescue.....

Quite possibly. But they are now late 80's, which puts them towards the latter end of their use-by date. And have we heard anything at all about a replacement class for these craft?

Odds on they'll be surveyed and concessed, they don't need to be modern if your using them as coastal patrol craft, although how long they'd last if they're continually used in rough weather would remain to be seen. The cutter that comes round Guzz is a lot bigger but there again we're talking Channel use if ever the URNU boats were used.

It may well be that it's the Fishery Protection ships that get earmarked for helping out the Border Force.

Of course, there's always the Sea Cadet Corps, Combined Cadet Force and the Sea Scouts to call on.

Using sail power would certainly impress the bean counters by reducing the fuel bill. And if the White Ensign was required, why not involve the Royal Yacht Squadron, too?

I love it when a plan comes together.
Minor issue how the hell are you going to catch the bad guys when the are driving powered boats? all they have to do is pick calm or really rough days?

on a calm day ok, but from a sailing dinghy in roughers?

Heat seeking warhead, either zooms in on the outboard or the migrants who'll probably be sweating buckets wondering if they'll get caught, should work on the smugglers as well. Plus you could always call in a drone, those drone pilots need training.

Looks like a plan send to your MP for onward approval? :D
