    I was once told by a DO I had more chance of knitting fog than going through for hossifer....does that count?

    Here we go again...during the 2nd WW we used to knit squares and balaclava's. I was useless at casting on and off, but a dab hand at the knitting.

    Once knitted a balaclava in silver string for my wife's teddy bear, she wanted to dress it a knight with chain mail.

    last time, never again.

    Knitting saved my great uncle in-laws life. Whilst on a minesweeper in the Channel during WWII they were on the upper deck when the killick gunner said they'll do some gunnery practice. As he went below to stow his knitting the ship was hit by a torpedo. All the remaining gun crew on deck were killed.
    The second time he lost a ship from underneath his feet.
