I remember in the new entry bit, we were Hampshire mess and were called to attention and marched about as such but I'm fucked if I can remember what we were called after.

Also remember the long covered way but can't remember whereabouts the short covered way was, or if that was where we were for new entry.

    Think me heads about fucked.

Short covered way was near the mast and was considerably shorter than te long covered way.
new recruits were marched into Ganges after the Four weeks in the new entry quarters across the road from Ganges proper.

And I've not been near your head Taff

We were called a class. The short covered way was behind the long covered way and ran parallel to it so if you stood at the top of the LCW, the SCW was to your left.

Individually a class, but collectively a recruitment as in I was 25 recruitment September 1959. But what on earth is the problem with being ex-Ganges? Every man (and womand) and his (her) dog seems to be having hissy fits about it. If it's to come down to it there could be separate forums for each ship these days or a photo section of Ipods and their uses in Middle Eastern waters. Now when oi wuz in the navy.......
