    I didn't get one, but any 9s I had (and I had a one or three) were spent in the Reg Office cos my old man was a crusher there in 60/61 - not a nice feeling knowing that they might have been keeping him up to date with my transgressions !!
    Sadly, yes. I suspect that was told to all nozzers to scare the daylights out of us. If they had shown us the scary length of the cane it might have had more impact! Of course I wrongly assumed that naval canings would be like school canings!!! You had the advantage, presumably, of insider information, so knew to avoid them at ALL costs. I hope you dad wasn't one of my tormentors, as a not infrequent guest of the Regulating Office. They scared the shit out of me

    OK...... Ganges. Joined Nov 1957. J (Mech E) Keppel division. Ended up an AA! in 1969.

    Reckon that transition is pretty rare.

    I do have some old photos somewhere. I'll scan 'em in when I can.
