Outback in Pompey and Kularoos are nothing to do with Walkabout bars, but merely latched onto the idea of Ozzie bars a few years ago.
However from a 'Devil's Advocate' point of view, who is to say that the lads in uniform were not behaving in an appropriate manner when they attempted to gain entry into the bar concerned? They may have been asked to leave for a good reason.
By all means boycott Walkabout, because if they did discriminate against the lads because of their dress then they did not act sensitively. But when the dust has settled and people's memories begin to fade, is Jack/Royal really going to avoid going there when everywhere else is shut and WA are doing wet t-shirt poledancing competions and "Buy One Get 15 Drinks Free" promotions? I doubt it...

The article states that "stunned bystanders shouted at the bouncers......". It is quite plain from this that the group had been to Cpl Nowak's funeral and had the sympathies of other potential bar-users. Walkabout cannot have it all ways. It would certainly not be the first time that uniformed personnel added to the group's profits, but WA Liverpool obviously misread the mood that day and deserve all the criticism for treating Servicemen like sh1t at such a time as this.

True, and I'm not apologising for Walkabout. Just trying to give an alternative viewpoint (even though I believe what was reported was true, as the servicemen were with members of Cpl. Nowak's family at the time.)

The part I found most confusing was when they said in the email sent out about the service man who was killed in the bar. I dont see what this has to do with them refusing entry to the two marines. The service man who died was in the navy but was out of uniform and on leave so there was no way the incident took place because he was in the forces. He was out with his mates and knocked into someone and the person hit him knocking him to the floor and killing him. I find it sickning that they could use this as an excuse for not letting in the marines. I know I will never be going there again

It'd be nice to see one of the campaigning newspapers taking this up as a cause. If the Daily Mail, Telegraph or Express took it on, maybe the garbage organisation that sees fit to insult the UK Armed Forces and Liverpool would be properly embarrassed.
Still waiting to see a full, unambiguous apology to Cpl Nowak's family and Unit colleagues.

A pat on the back for all who e-mailed Regent Inns about the Walkabout nonsense in Liverpool. Take a look at the following on the Walkabout website:

Wahey - it seems they were aware of the online petition, which caused them to do a u-turn.
I just received this email from the Company:
I hope you don't object to me making contact via this email address.
I am responding to your petition on 'petitiononline.com' in order to
clarify our policy regarding uniformed personnel.
We have posted the attached statement onto the homepage of our website at
www.walkabout.eu.com
CHANGE OF POLICY REGARDING UNIFORMED PERSONNEL
In light of a regrettable incident that occurred in Liverpool last week
when two Royal Marines were not allowed into the bar, we wanted to clarify
our policy:
There is no national policy banning uniformed service personnel. There was
a non-uniform policy in Liverpool due to three incidents in the last six
months where the safety of uniformed personnel was compromised. However,
further to recent feedback we have revised this policy and the uniform ban
in Liverpool has been lifted, bringing it in-line with the rest of our
bars.
Furthermore, we welcome the group of marines that were turned away back to
the bar for a free lunch in full uniform.
We deeply regret that this incident has caused upset to Cpl Nowak’s family,
friends and comrades and want to re-iterate that all service personnel are
welcome at all of our bars.
I trust this clarification is welcome.
Kind regards

One can't help wondering what would happen if they have a problem and called the Police, you can hear the conversation can't you - "sorry officer you can't come in here your in uniform!", "but you just called us becasue some little civilian scroat has knifed someone!" Yes thats right but our policy (here in this establishment,) sez you can't come in in uniform, we'll just ask him to come outside and then you can arrest him. whoops he has just stabbed a doorman who's now bleeding to death, but your in uniform and so are the paramedics, so they CAN'T COME IN!"
Yeah! right!
More like hepl help some nasty man just called me names arrest him officer in there!

I have to say, I was at the inncident and I can vouch that the marines in question weren't acting in an agressive manner- although the wife of one- being a scouser, started to be when the bouncer said they aint comming in.
would like to publically thank Midshipman Ben Booth or Liverpool URNU who actually got the echo involved in the first place!

Perhaps the apology would be a little better received if it were accompanied by a substantial donation to a RM charity.
